Entrepreneur and Community Leader Tawonda Burks Announces Candidacy for Olmsted County Commissioner, District 6

As an entrepreneur and community advocate, I bring a wealth of experience and a strong vision for the county's future. With a focus on housing, criminal justice, public health, and human services, I am committed to making a positive impact on our community.

About Tawonda Burks:

I currently serve as the Director of Operations at RAEDI (Rochester Area Economic Development Inc.), where I am deeply involved in propelling small business and economic development in our region. Alongside this, I am also the founder and proud owner of ELOCINA, LLC, where I channel my entrepreneurial spirit to support fellow business owners. Additionally, as the President-Elect of Southeast Minnesota BDPA, Board of Trustee member of the Jeremiah Program, Board Member of the Boys and Girls Club of Rochester, Leadership Table at Cradle 2 Career and committee member with Center for Chronic Disease Reduction & Equity Promotion Across America. I am committed to serving my community and giving back.

My educational background is a reflection of my commitment to personal and professional development. My education includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, a Master of Business Administration from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, and ongoing pursuit of an EdD in Educational Leadership.

Reason for Running:

My decision to run for County Commissioner stems from a deep-rooted passion for service and a desire to address pressing issues facing our residents. I believe in bringing innovative solutions to challenges related to housing affordability, criminal justice reform, healthcare access, and human services.

Vision:

I envision a future for Olmsted County where every resident has access to safe and affordable housing, where our criminal justice system is fair and equitable, and where healthcare and human services are accessible to all. Through collaboration and community engagement, I am dedicated to building a county that prioritizes the well-being and prosperity of its residents.

Leadership and Community Engagement:

I continuously refine my leadership skills through diverse educational, professional, and community engagements, and I actively participate in numerous boards and committees, driving positive change and growth in the communities I serve.

In the greatest sense, I am deeply committed to serving the residents of Olmsted County and addressing the critical issues that impact our community. With a strong vision, proven leadership, and a dedication to collaboration, I am confident that together, we can build a better future for all. I humbly ask for your support and trust as we embark on this journey towards positive change. Let's work hand in hand to create a county that we can all be proud of.
